Welcome! We're the folks behind the Global Development Atlas, and we're all about making global data easy to see and understand.
Basically, we want to help everyone get a better handle on what's going on in the world. We believe that when you can actually see the data, it makes it way easier to understand how countries are developing and what the big trends are.
We've got these cool interactive world maps that show you different things like how much money countries are making, what their exports are, how many people live in cities, and how people are doing with education. You can click around and compare different countries it's pretty neat!
We get our data straight from the best sources out there, like the World Bank. We don't mess with the numbers at all we just show them to you as they are. We use a bit of tech magic (JavaScript!) to color-code the countries on the maps, which makes it super easy to see the patterns.
So, the person who started this whole thing has a fancy degree in international stuff from UC San Diego, with a focus on economics and politics. They spent a lot of time digging into numbers and how countries develop. Plus, they've got a certificate in Data Analytics from Google, so they know their way around data and making it look good. They've even worked on projects visualizing how things like Hurricane Katrina affected different communities.
We're all about being upfront and honest. That means:
Getting it right: We make sure our data comes from reliable places and is shown correctly.
Keeping it the same: We use the same methods for showing data across the board.
Being trustworthy: We want you to know you can count on what you see here.
Following the rules: We stick to the best ways of handling and showing data.
Being open: You can always see where our data comes from and how we put it together.
This site is for everyone. You don't need to be a data expert to get what's going on here. The maps are designed to be really visual, so anyone can jump in and start exploring.
